Following the success of Polladhavan, the entire team barring the heroine decided to come together for the second time. Despite early indications that Nayantara would be playing the heroine, Trisha Krishnan was roped into portray the lead female role, her first project with Dhanush. Trisha Krishnan later pulled out of the project due to her other commitments in Bollywood. She was replaced by a Delhi based model Taapsee Pannu.
The film was previously christened as Seval, however was renamed since another film directed by Hari and starring Bharath had registered the title. Early indications suggest that the film could be based upon a true story which occurred in Madurai in the 1970s. The film was shot for more than six months in Thirunagar, Thirupparankundram and areas around.

GV Prakash has really spruced up in his attempt to become a versatile singer as well. One can’t believe that this was sung by GVP. He admits that he had sung the tracks for this song and Dhanush insisted on retaining his voice for the album. Nice attempt to “Madurai slang” at some places! He has given an excellent “love” feel to the lyrics of Snehan & his attitude is just perfect through out the song. What starts as a melody takes a turn as a nice foot tapping folk song! That’s the way to transition. Way to go boy!
02. Otha Sollaala; Singer: Velmurugan; Lyrics: Yegathesi; My Rating: 2/5
Not a great number. A wanna-be kuthu song which has shades of his earlier compositions from Veyil. New comer Velmurugan has done a neat job, however, fails to impress – possibly there was nothing in the song to create that first impression. A passing cloud song!
03. PorkaLam (Tamil Version) & Warriors (English Version; Singer & Lyricist: Yogi B; My rating: 1/5
Just because the rest of the team was a hit, it does not mean that this guy should have been roped in. Agreed that “Yengeyum Eppodhum” remix version was a good number with Yogi B chipping in with his compulsive rap; that was simply because of the Original song was a BIG hit. That does not mean that Yogi B should be brought in again and allowed to bellow with his irksome voice. To make things worse, there are two versions! Dude [Yogi B] – Do something fresh or fish-off!
04. En VeNNilave; Singers: KK; Lyrics: VIS Jayapalan; My rating: 1.5/5
A total muddled number. After some good pathos like “Ninaithu Ninaithu” in 7G Rainbow Colony, “Kadhal Valarthen” in Manmadhan, KK has been given another similar number. All I would say is the talented singer has been totally wasted with this awfully disorientated composition. There is nothing motivating for one to listen to this song fully. Better luck next time!
05. Ayyayyo; Singers: SPB, SP CharaN & Prashanthini; Lyrics: Snehan; My rating: 3.5/5
Well, here is yet another impressive number of the album. To my knowledge, this is the first time the father-son duo has come together in singing a song (can’t get the rationale though!). Typical love song lyrics which is notable even if it has shades of “Inji Idupazhagaa”, a ILayaraaja composition from Devar Magan & “Urugudhey Marugudhey” from Veyil, composed by GVP himself. May be the rendition of SPB arrests you once again?
06. A love blossoms; My rating: 4/5
Call it a “theme song” or “instrumental” performed by Navin Iyer, this short piece of music & humming is fascinating. Sounds like a typical Dhanush theme!
My Verdict:
Avg. Score: 3/5. A decent album from GVP! He is capable of much more than this for sure. May be he needs a big break to compose for a real big-time director, the only best till date was Aayirathil Oruvan for Selvaraghavan. May be the Selva-GVP duo comes back well in their forthcoming projects Maruvan & Sindubad [Courtesy: Wikipedia]
